Cordyceps

Prized in ancient China for its healing properties, the rare Cordyceps mushroom is credited with the power to tone the entire body, ensuring a long and healthy life. Used to treat everything from respiratory problems to joint pain, and as a food for convalescents, Cordyceps builds strength and stamina, improves concentration and boosts the immune system. The fungus is greatly valued as an aphrodisiac and as an aid to stress management.

It was only in 1993, when Chinese athletes fuelled by Cordyceps extract swept the board at Beijing’s National Games, that the West began to sit up and take notice of the miracle mushroom.

Taking Cordyceps allows the body to use oxyg en more efficiently by increasing levels of ATP, the coenzyme which transports energy within cells. Recent research shows it can benefit sufferers of fatigue, particularly the elderly.

A proven cough suppressant, Cordyceps is used in the treatment of various respiratory conditions, including asthma, tuberculosis and chronic bronchitis. Its inhibiting effect on the contraction of the trachea increases airflow into the lungs and is particularly beneficial to asthmatics. Then simply click here!

The effect of Cordyceps on sexual functions has been studied in double-blind tests at a Peking university and in Japan. During research into male and female impotence, 64% of male participants and 90% of elderly women reported a significant improvement in sexual performance and increased libido. It has been speculated that Cordyceps replicates the action of the sex hormones, whose decreased function in old age can cause loss of libido and sexual problems.

Studies have shown that Cordyceps acts as an agent of vasodilation, widening the blood vessels to improve blood flow. This property makes it suitable for use in the treatment of ’heavy legs’.

For runners and athletes, a daily intake of 4-5g of Cordyceps increases oxygen uptake, improves cardiac rhythm and raises the anaerobic threshold. The metabolism is raised to burn more fat, and more efficient use is made of muscular glycogen.

Cordyceps may increase the body’s levels of HDL, the ’good’ cholesterol’, lowering cholesterol overall, and can be an aid to cardiovascular health.
