Why Should I Eat Healthy?
Most people are too busy to read all there is to know about the link between good nutrition and good health so here’s the executive summary:
The better you eat, the more likely you are to stay healthy for longer. This means less illness, less pain, less time and money at the doctor’s and hospital and more fun in your life.
This is not new news.
The ancient Greek, Hippocrates (460-377 BC), was regarded as the greatest physician of his time. He held the belief that the body must be treated as a whole and not just a series of parts. He became known as the founder of medicine.
He taught that the first and foremost principle of medicine must be to respect nature’s healing forces, which inhabit each living organism. Hippocrates considered illness a natural phenomenon - it forced people to discover and correct the imbalances in their health. He believed strongly in good food and related the course of any ailment to poor nutrition and bad eating habits. He stressed, “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” To this day that advice has not lost its validity.
For 2,200 years until 1805, medicine was practised exclusively according to Hippocrates.
Similarly, if even earlier, an old Ayurvedic (ancient Indian medicine) proverb says: “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”
To eat better, forget counting calories. Think micronutrients and eat a wide variety of foods. You get a wider variety of better nutrients the more different foods you eat. That’s why my top bar has 137 ingredients in it. More different foods than you eat in a week. Click on the green Introductory Offer button below to get a trial pack of thirteen of my bars and slices.
More recently, Dr. Stephen Sinatra says:
“You must provide your body’s remarkable repair power with the nutritional materials and building blocks it needs to keep going and growing.”
More Data On Nutrition
I make my healthy snacks and healthy food bars from a wide variety of natural ingredients to provide super nutrition, to deliver instant and lasting energy and to improve your healthspan.
When so many other food suppliers can provide you with something to eat, why do I bother? I read an article from The International Medical Council on Vaccination that says, “the primary keys to health are good nutrition, pure water, adequate sleep, routine exercise and happiness.” Well, they got 4 out of 12. But hell, they are probably looking for an easy to remember sound bite. I am not as interested in doing things easy as I am in doing them right.
So what is “good nutrition”? The amount of energy a food provides is measured in calories. The nutrition information panel on every wrapped food tells you the gross data - how many calories, how much protein, fat, carbs and sugar. What it fails to tell you is how nutritious the food is for your body.
Why is that important? Often times the manufactured foods we purchase contain sugar. Sugar is essentially a poison. It provides empty calories with next to no nutrition and is destructive to health. If you isolated two people and fed one nothing at all and the other only sugar, the sugar eater would die before the person eating nothing. (Do not try this experiment at home.) That’s one way you can tell it’s an addictive poison. A body does better without it.
Read something interesting the other day, “You only ever become addicted to a poison.” Ever heard of anyone being addicted to broccoli or cauliflower?
Do you know junk food is more addictive than cocaine?
What if your food was killing you slowly?
What if the way you were brought up to eat was the major reason for getting cancer, a stroke, heart attack or dying beofre your time?
Most people are victims of their own taste buds. From an early age they have been very thoroughly “educated” to eat what tastes good regardless of the long term effect to their health.
This leads to the average person being tired, mentally fazed, over weight and under nourished. In short, unhappy. Or, to be really blunt, feeling fat, dumb, sick, hungry and frustrated. If you would rather be trim, smart, well and satisfied, then keep reading, because that is my wish for you! Living your life with the power and energy to do whatever you want with all of your time! Falling into bed every night exhausted but happy from living so much life that day!
My research has led me to the opinion that diseases like cancer, strokes, heart attack, Alzheimer’s, dementia etc. are on the rise as a direct result of our highly toxic environment, diet and lifestyle.
According to Dr. C. Everett Koop, former US Surgeon General, your diet is killing you.
He said, “8 of the top 10 causes of death are directly related to poor nutrition.”
If optimal nutrition tasted like chocolate we’d all live to be 150!
All the marketing and pretty packaging in the world cannot turn empty calories from sugar and highly processed food into good nutrition that enhances your body health. The marketing and pretty packaging will sell a lot of junk food and make some corporations really profitable. It will turn an entire generation into junk food addicts who die far earlier than they should. But don’t for one minute confuse those empty calories with my nutrient packed calories!
Some labels even go so far as to list the vitamin and mineral content in the product. Again, this in only part of the story. What remains untold is the incredible health benefits of long-term consumption of high quantities of a wide variety of micronutrients. Micronutrients are components of nutrient dense foods that are very difficult and expensive to measure but contribute to spectacular health.
For instance, eating 8 servings of vegetables a day leads to a 22% drop in the risk of the most common form of heart disease.
The wider the variety of micronutrients you eat,
the better your chances are for great health!
For instance, did you know there are far greater benefits from 6 smaller portions than 3 larger portions of vegetables? And that research has shown that eating more than one antioxidant rich food at the same time does not give you a merely additive health benefit, it’s multiplicative? Antioxidants are synergistic - they are more powerful combined than they are individually.
A few years ago i Wrote “It’s for this reason I have over 75 ingredients in my top bar. In one bar I get a wider variety of nutrients into my body than are in all the meals I eat in a week.” The next batch of my top bar will have 228 ingredients in it.
Over 50 of those 70+ ingredients have varying levels of antioxidant benefits. In alphabetical order they are:
Acai Berry Agave Syrup Amonds Apricots Astragalus Brazil Nuts Bacopa monnieri\Brahmi Brewers Yeast Cacao Nibs Cacao Powder Camu Camu Caraway Seeds Cashew nuts Chia Seeds Chick Peas Chlorella Cinnamon Coconut Oil Cranberries Currants Dates Flaxseeds\Linseeds Goji Berries Gotu Kola Hazelnuts Honey Lecithin LĂșcuma Powder Macadamia Nuts Maca Powder Mesquite Meal Nopal Powder Olive Leaf Oregano Pepitas Pecans Peppermint Pine Nuts Purple Corn Extract Raisins Reishi Mushroom Powder Rhodiola Rosea Rosemary Sesame Seeds Siberian Ginseng Spirulina Sultanas Sunflower Seeds Tahini Tribulus Turmeric Vitamin E Walnuts Whey Protein Concentrate Yacon Syrup |
Given that antioxidents are multiplicative rather than additive in their effect on the body, I can only imagine what the long-term benefits will be for my body by putting that many high quality nutrients into it on a regular basis.
