Cat’s Claw

Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa), commonly known as “una de gato” in Spanish, is a woody vine that grows in the tops of trees in Peruvian rain forests. The herb is known among the natives for its curative properties. Referred to as the “Sacred Herb of the Rainforest”, this vine’s small thorns located at the base of its leaves resemble a cat’s claw. Sold over the counter as a cancer treatment in South America, cat’s claw’s use as a cancer aid shows promising results in studies conducted throughout the world.

Cat’s Claw has been used by the indigenous people of Peru for thousands of years to maintain health and vitality and in particular to treat immune and digestive disorders. Scientists have patented many of the single chemicals found in it for use in healing cancer, arthritis, AIDS, and other diseases. The immuno-stimulant properties of Cat’s Claw help the body fight off infections and protect against degenerative diseases. By stimulating the immune system, it can also improve response to viral and respiratory infections. It has also anti-inflammatory properties.

One of the active substances in Cat’s Claw has been proven to boost the immune system. Four have been shown to have a pronounced enhancement effect on the ability of the white blood cells to attack, engulf and digest harmful micro-organisms, foreign matter and debris. One ingredient has anti-hypertensive effects and may reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack by lowering blood pressure, increasing circulation, reducing heart rate and controlling cholesterol.

If you’re looking to prevent cancer, you need to know about una de gato. At the University of Milan, Renato Rizzi led an experiment with Una de Gato as it relates to cancer causing (mutagenic) substances in smokers. It is well known that the urine of smokers contains mutagenic substances. When given Una de Gato for two weeks, the smokers’ urine returned to normal.
