Bilberries
Ripe bilberries (Botanical Name: Vaccinium myrtillus) are mildly laxative due to their fruit sugar content. However, when dried, they are markedly binding and have an antibacterial action. A decoction of the dried fruit is used to treat diarrhea in children and as a mouthwash. The high anthocyanin content of bilberries makes them a potentially valuable treatment for varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and capillary fragility.
The leaves may be helpful in handling blood sugar in prediabetic states but are not an alternative to conventional treatment. They may also be taken for urinary tract infections. Other medical uses - Diabetic retinopathy, Prostatitis.
Bilberries are also helpful in raising the production of glutathione in the body.
